Form not working?

A two-minute test tells you for certain whether Spambuster is involved, and what to do either way.

Updated 24 October 2026

The short answer

Most of the time, a form that won't send isn't Spambuster. Spambuster is built to step aside: if our check can't run, the form still sends. A two-minute test, below, tells you for certain.

Two things to rule out first

Is it an "Add to cart" or "Buy it now" button?

Spambuster never touches product forms: add to cart, buy it now, product options, or the cart drawer. If one of those is stuck, it's another app or your theme.

Is Spambuster switched on at all?

If Spambuster is switched off, it isn't running on your store, so it can't be stopping the form. Check in a few seconds:

Check my store

We look at your home page the way a visitor does. If it says Spambuster is switched off, the form problem is somewhere else.

The two-minute test 2 min

This switches Spambuster off for a moment, so you can see whether the form works without it. Your forms are unprotected only while it's off, so do step 4.

  1. Open your app embedsIn Shopify, go to Online Store, then Themes, then Customize, then App embeds (the icon on the left).
  2. Switch Spambuster offTurn off "reCAPTCHA Spambuster" and click Save.
  3. Try the form onceUse a private browser window, so nothing is cached.
  4. Switch Spambuster back onTurn "reCAPTCHA Spambuster" on again and click Save.

Still broken with Spambuster off

It isn't Spambuster. The usual causes are another app on that page (product options, form or page builders, translation, cookie banners) or a recent theme change.

Works only with Spambuster off

That's ours to fix. Write to us with the page address and the time you tried, and we'll find the reason and put it right.

A customer says they were blocked

Spambuster gives each visit a score from 0 (almost certainly a bot) to 1 (almost certainly a person), and lets through anything above your threshold. A strict threshold can stop the odd genuine customer on a VPN or a privacy browser. Open Spambuster, then Event Log, and click Spotlight fails to see each stopped submission with its time, form and score. How to find one customer. If real people are among them, lower your threshold one step in Settings. 0.5 is a sensible middle.

When to write to us straight away: several customers can't send any form, or the page hangs when they press Send. That isn't how Spambuster should ever fail, and we want to know.
