Privacy, cancelling and your data

How to cancel, what we delete and when, what we keep, and how to ask us to delete the rest.

Updated 24 October 2026

The short answer

To cancel, uninstall Spambuster. The record of each form check is deleted at once, your settings two to four days later. We never store what your customers type into a form, except the messages we stop, which we keep for you for 30 days. Anything that's left, we delete when you ask.

Cancelling

Uninstall Spambuster in your Shopify admin, under Settings, then Apps and sales channels. That ends your Spambuster plan in Shopify's billing; there's nothing else to cancel. Your forms keep working as normal, without our check.

What happens to your data

  1. When you uninstallThe record of every form check is deleted, along with our access to your store and your plan details.
  2. Two to four days laterYour Spambuster settings are deleted. Reinstall before then and they're still there.
  3. What we keep until you askDaily totals (how many checks, how many stopped) and a log of changes to your account. Bot fingerprints we share across stores to recognise repeat offenders (scrambled IP addresses and browser names) stay too, but nothing links them to your store any more.

What we hold about your visitors

While Spambuster is installed, each check records the form type, the score, the result, the page, the visitor's IP address (and a scrambled copy of it) and their browser name. Shopify delivers the form, not us. To check what a message says, your form also sends us the message, name and email; we read them and forget them, except for a message we stop, which is kept, encrypted, for 30 days so a real customer stopped by mistake isn't lost: email us and we can tell you what was stopped. A locked fingerprint of the email address and the visitor's network helps us recognise a spammer across the stores we protect. All three are on for every store. To have the message check, keeping stopped messages or shared email history turned off for yours, email contact@jola.com.au and we'll do it for you. The full details are in our privacy policy.

Asking us to delete everything

Email us from your store's address, or ask through Shopify, which sends us a deletion request 48 hours after you uninstall. Deleting can't be undone, so before we delete a whole store's data we check the request really comes from that store. Usually that means publishing a page with a short code we send you; it takes a minute, and it protects you from someone else asking on your behalf. We confirm in writing when it's done, well within Shopify's 30 days.

Coming back

Install Spambuster again from the Shopify App Store, approve the permissions and choose a plan (Shopify asks again after an uninstall). Then switch it on in your theme: the app's Turn on protection button does it in one click. Your numbers start from zero.
